Hi Jacqueline!

You can book your cruise at any travel agency or mid-size / big hotel in Vietnam. Hostels and guesthouses also offer tours, or can point you in the right direction to book it. There are tons of licensed companies.

What I recommend (I wish I had done this) is to go to a few places once you're in Hanoi to see what prices are offered. Also ask around and see what others have paid. It pays to shop around.

The cruise is very popular and you I'm positive you will be able to find a fun group. Cancellations could occur due to weather, so check the forecasts before you book anything (if you're flexible with the dates).

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

hey! I just stumbled across your site! I am living in China right now, and looking for a place to go on our extra long weekend we have coming up in April!
Your post inspired me to def check this out!
Where did you book the cruise through? Can you do it before hand or would it be best to book just from hanoi?
Do you think there will be quite a few people in April on that cruise? I dont want to party alone!

[...] If you were to close your eyes an imagine what making your way through the desert on camel back would be like, you’re likely to picture a beating sun and mouths parched white.
[...] For all of those 5”8 or taller, get ready for an awkward ride. These animals were not tall enough to accommodate my long legs, and left my feet nearly dragging across the floor. They are also VERY disobedient. If you’re looking for a unique way to explore the Valley of the Queens in Egypt, you can opt to ride a donkey taxi up the mountain to the Temple of Hatshepsut. I personally won’t choose this ever again as the donkey was as slow as he was uncooperative. More about hanging out with the Kings and Queens of ancient Egypt here. [...]

[...] The safer and more expensive option to this are the houseboats. These are generally used by tourists only, and can be privately used. The houseboat, known locally as a klotok, comes manned with a 5 man crew to serve as tour guide, navigator, chef and cleaning crew. Most popularly used to navigate the black waters of the Tanjung Puting Orangutan Reserve. Read about my experience living on a klotok and encountering orangutans here. [...]
