Q&A About traveling solo (part 1)

Making my way through my travel goal would have been impossible if I was unwilling to travel on my own. People just tend to assume there is a certain type of person who is able to do it, you know, your “crazy globe trotting friend with no responsibilities”. But I wasn’t always a crazy travel friend to others. I used to be terrified to have dinner by myself. Here are some of my answers to the questions that have likely ran through your mind: What’s the planning like? Are there places you shouldn’t travel to on your own? How do you manage a budget without sharing expenses?

Walkabout Rome

Rome was everything that I expected it to be, except for the smell of dog and horse poop, and the noise.
Everything that “they” warn you about is true: the men will try to seduce you; pickpockets abound; and you’re going to eat your own weight in food: mostly gelati and some mega carbs.
That being said, you had better walk it off! Rome is really easy to navigate on foot. I’m serious! Check out all the things you can see while working on your love-handles.

Vatican - St._Peters

Vatican City: an entire country in Rome

Did you know visiting the Italian capital allows you to visit two countries at the same time? But if you want to see anything in the “Holy See” (or Vatican City, an entirely independent country in the heart of Rome), you had better get there early! What’s the deal with Vatican City anyways?

Dazed in Firenze – not from love, but from Dayquil

This would be the perfect time to write a romantically themed post, wouldn’t it? It’s Valentines Day, I am drawing up memories of one of Italy’s cities that caters to lovers, Cupid himself could be sitting on my shoulder as I type… But alas! I only have a story of how I made my way around this beautiful city hopped up on cold medication. Weeeeee!
