A quick post with some funny things I’ve seen so far…
#1: No farting please!
It was my roommate who brought this one to my attention. It was in the van we took from Victory Monument on our weekend getaway to Samet Island. I love it that the passing of gas is depicted as explosive for emphasis. Either way it is straight to the point. Next to it is a Durian, famous fruit adored by most Asians and detested by most foreigners. I join the ranks of the latter. Although I don’t find the smell all that horrible (it is really the taste: a blend of garlic, soft apples and old cheese that gets to me), apparently it is the same caliber as a mushroom cloud fart. Dogs, smoking and alcohol were also prohibited.
#2: “Black Man” product line
This I had found at Tops Supermarket during my first month in Bangkok. There was an entire line of products under the “Black Man” label, all related to cleaning. I couldn’t decided over the mop or the toilet brush to take a photo of, but clearly decided on the latter. A Tops employee caught sight of my photo taking and told me that it was not allowed. I felt bad and ended up buying the thing! Originally posted on my Facebook account, I was told that there was a similar product line for toothpaste and personal hygiene products called “Darkie” showing the sketch of a black man in a top hat. Apparently this received bad press and was eventually changed to “Darlie” still showing the same sketch of a man in a top hat. I hope the same thing happens for “Black Man” throughout Asia!

Ten years ago I set a goal to visit 30 countries by my 30th birthday. With no plan or country list to fulfill this goal, I decided to let life take me where it wished.
“See Simi Travel Blog | Adventures of a travel snob“, is just that. The account of an ex-20-something year exploring the world, usually solo, and on a very limited budget.
Every other week I try to tell you a story about the friends, food, fun and fails I’ve had along the way.
